Jugendmuren, Nytorget
The stones come from Jugendmuren at Nytorget.
After the city expansion in 1848, Nytorget was built. The square was widely used by farmers who came by horse and cart. The square was also used for giving speeches, public meetings, etc.
In 1922, Nytorget was given its current shape with a stone wall, Jugendmuren, facing Pedersgata.
For many years, there were proposals for various public toilet facilities beneath Nytorget, but the plans do not appear to have been realised until 1950 as part of Jugendmuren. However, the toilets have now been closed for a long time.
The square has also been used as a municipal material storage and as a parking area for buses.
Nytorget has been under rehabilitation since 2023 and will be expanded with a park.
