Kongsgata, Lervigskaien
The stones are donated from the municipality’s surplus stock.
Many of the stones have previously been used as cobblestones and curbstones in Kongsgata.
The largest blocks of stone come from quay paving at the Stavanger Cementvarefabrikk (cement factory) at Lervigskaien (quay), which was an important part of the Port of Stavanger.
Lervigskaien was built in 1917-1937. It was essential for the growth of the city. Stavanger Cementvarefabrikk, which was started in 1897, not only produced cement sewer pipes, but also mosaics, concrete stairs, cement hollow stones, washbasin plates, electrical appliances, and other building materials. They also specialised in the production of building lime, flour lime and fertiliser lime for agriculture. In addition, they also produced toys.
Today, the area at Lervig has been converted into a combined residential and commercial area.
