The donated stone comes from a cobalt vein in the cobalt mines in Modum.
In the autumn of 1772, one of the most important discoveries in Norwegian history occurred. In Skuterudåsen at Modum, someone glimpses a strange blue streak in the rock. It is cobalt – one of the world’s most sought-after minerals. It was to be the start of one of the greatest industrial adventures in Norwegian history: Blaafarveværket.
