The stone is part of the bottom step of a staircase that must have been large and ostentatious. The sides of the stone have the typical Louis-seize style (ca. 1780-1810) flutes. Another part of the staircase was used as a door slab in front of the main entrance of Vivelstad schooland is back in place. The stone in question was lying “discarded” outside the school building. Why these staircase elements ended up at Vivelstad school is a mystery.
