Plinth for Fridtjof Nansen statue, Holmenkollen
The stone comes from the pedestal of a statue of Fridtjof Nansen. The sculpture was moved there in 1964 from Frammuseet on Bygdøy.
Fridtjof Nansen (1861-1930) is one of Norway’s most versatile and internationally famous people of all time. He was a pioneering naturalist, polar expedition leader, author, artist, diplomat and philanthropist. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1922.
The Ski Museum is the world’s oldest and has Norway’s largest collection of skis and other winter equipment. It is owned by the Association for the Promotion of Skiing. The museum was opened in 1923 at Frognerseteren inOslo andmoved to Holmenkollbakken in 1951 with premises inside the ski jump itself. Since 1983, it has been located in new premises in the mountain next door, designed by architect Arnstein Friling and expanded in the period 1997–1999.
