The stones come from a replaced top deck at the Karljohansvern naval facility. Karljohansvern is a former naval facility in Horten in Vestfold. Karljohansvern has been both a shipyard, a naval base and a fortress. The facility was established as the naval shipyard Horten Værft in 1819 and took over as the Navy’s main station from 1850 when Karljohansvern replaced Fredriksvern in Stavern. The shipyard is the foundation of Horten as a city.

Today, Karljohansvern houses museums, exhibitions, shops, and restaurants.
