Hamar Cathedral
The donated stone was taken from the Hamar Cathedral ruins and was used in the cathedral’s Romanesque phase, which dates to 1152- approximately. 1200. This is a hewn ashlar used in the exterior walling. Dating and use can be determined by the material used, which is Mjøs limestone, and the size of tool marks on the facing surfaces. It is important that the hewn marks appear in the art project. The stone has provenance from Furuberget, where the Bishop of Hamar had quarries during the entirety of the Middle Ages.
Hamar Cathedral collapsed after a fire in 1567.
