In 2023, Forsvarsbygg carried out major maintenance work on the fortress walls at The Crown Prince’s Battery at Kongsvinger Fortress. The measure includes the complete dismantling of the walls on the inside and the restructuring of the entire rampart. The measures have been applied for and approved with a decision from the Directorate for Cultural Heritage. The design and application to the Directorate for Cultural Heritage have taken into account some replacement of stone in the masonry. This applies to stone that is set in concrete and where this is demanding to remove, and where the individual stone is also not suitable in a masonry with joints and crossbars. The project has therefore, as planned, been supplemented with stone of a local type of moraine stone similar to that found in the wall, but with better properties for joints and crossbars.

Surplus stone has been reused in the back wall as far as possible, while some has been sorted as unsuitable and will not be reused in the project. It is parts of this last sorting that are now being opened for reuse in the new city floor, Sebastia, in the Government Quarter.
